Chia seeds are the edible seeds of Salvia hispanica, a flowering plant in the mint family and are high in nutrients and fibre.

Properties:

  • Classed as a SUPERFOOD
  • High in Lignans – which lowers heart disease & cancer
  • Chia delivers a massive amount of nutrients with very few calories
  • Loaded with antioxidants which help fight free radicals
  • High in fiber & Omega 3 fatty acids
  • High in quality protein which makes up 14% of its weight

Nutritional Value per 100g:

  • Protein 17g; Fat 31g; Carbs 42g; (most of which is fiber),Calcium 63%; Magnesium 83%; Iron 42%

RDA is 1 ½ tbsp. twice a day

Uses:

  • Add to smoothies, oats, cereals
  • Allow to soak before eating to obtain most of the nutrients
  • Used as an egg replacement by soaking in water
  • Add Chia to a nut milk or coconut milk, then layer with fruit for a desert.

Bought the 1kg bag. Great price for that much chia, packaged well and will last me for more than 6 months. Only pity is the packaging being plastic when it's a delivery order but I understand the logistics.
